Vacation Bible School

Today's craft in Imagination Station:

Mask Making

The masks ready for color!

Materials included- Masks, elastic cords, sharpies, 

tape, staples

and

Feathers!!!

Each child got 5 pieces of tape.

Which means my wonderful volunteers tore over 700 pieces of washi tape!!!

Masks were counted out by class and the elastic string 

already attached on one side ready for the children.

My mask example but check out 

all the marvelously creative children posing with their weird masks!!!

We had a great time!

After the children attached their washi tape and feathers and colored, 

we stapled the top 3 slits of the masks.

Volunteers and teachers were awesome stapling and tieing to finish off the masks!

I am so impressed with this young man!

He currently has a cast on one arm and comes so willing 

to participate and do the crafts on his own!

You can see a little bit in this photo -

the nose has perforated lines that help it sit

better on the face.

The washi tape worked well to get color on the mask and start the creative process.

They loved wearing their masks-

Love the eye decorations!

The children are so awesome to work with!!

We ended the day in warrior and ninja poses!!

Thanks again to my hard working volunteers and 

Pam, our Children's Minister for 

searching high and low and gathering supplies to create such wonderful crafts!

I can't wait for another day in Imagination Station!!!

It's that time of year again...

Vacation Bible School

This year's theme is:

WEIRD ANIMALS!!
Group VBS

Here's just some of our supplies for the

Imagination Station~

wikki stix, rocks and washi tape...

The Bible Point today...

When you feel left out... Jesus loves you!

Today's Bible Verse:

Today's craft was two-part:

#1 Make paint blobs for a later project in the week

#2 Use your imagination to work with wikki stix

The paint blobs turned out amazing - take a look-

Do you see a cupcake?

We used card stock to make it more sturdy with acrylic paint.

Approximately 145 paint blobs!!

Can you find the giraffe?

So cool!!

Lots of butterflies too!

The children were really surprised by the results.

I know they will be thrilled to see them dry and ready for the next part!

I can't wait to see what the children create with them!

The next part of our time in Imagination Station involved playing with..

Wikki Stix

Wikki Stix are waxy string that beg for your imagination!

Children love playing with them!

Once you teach a few basics, let the children's imagination run wild to see what they can create!

They were excited to take them home to show their parents what they could create!

New Prints

Been carving away...

And now I am ready to ink up and print.

I always love a striking color.

"Candles"

I wanted to create a print that can be used for birthday or celebration cards.

Since starting this block I have realized how much I love cake candles and even started

a Pinterest Board.  Follow the link to explore what's out there-

My block is inked and ready!

When I develop a color for my prints, 

I try to think beyond printing to what colors I would add when I apply watercolor to the prints.

I so enjoy carving and printing the small block.

this block is sized 2" x 3".

The repetition is soothing and mesmerizing to me.

Sometimes I really don't want to cut them apart...

On to the next one...

When I print I try to begin with the lightest color I will use and add darker ink as I go.

It saves on clean up.

"Fish in the Boat"

4" x 3"

This block housed many ideas before I finally decided on this one.

I wanted the image to blend better than it was, hence the rework.

Some faded parts are in each print, but I keep pressin' on!

This is a bigger block and I am hand pressing each print.

The faded parts give it that handmade and imperfect look to me.

Last but certainly not least...

 

"Tiki in the Sun"
4" x 2 7/8"

I was so excited about this one too!

It started out as a doodle and I knew I needed to make it a print!

There is some really small details in this block.

Here I reversed every other print for a unique pattern.

Some of the details get inked over after many prints but I still love this one!

Oh and by the way, this color is not black.  It is a dark gray with a bluish tint.  

For printing, I have found that I really prefer an off black color versus straight black.  A dark color with a bluish tint has richness and gives it a unique look. 

These blocks were not carved over a few nights.  They are examples of how being consistent and doing just a little bit each day can get it done.  I carved these blocks off and on from 6 months to a year.  

A few cuts a day and before you know it - you are ready to print-

Visually Speaking

She remembers her loss and her courage for within her lives a pink ember that cannot be tamed.

She kneeled down to see what her eye caught for her and relished in the discovery. As she placed the broken pottery in her hand she knew there would be more to its story.

Just a hint of blue was all she needed. She grabbed her purse and keys and knew she was unstoppable.
